about lyric

Eco-psychedelic pop songstress Lyric Benson Fergusson emerged from almost a decade of studying consciousness and enlightenment to create her debut album Lyric’s Love Light Revolution, co-produced by her father, actor/director Robby Benson, and her singer/songwriter mother, Karla DeVito. The album is a celebration of Lyric’s wildly eccentric journey into the throes of divine love. All of her lyrics were inspired and taken directly from the poetry she composed over these very unconventional spiritual years.

Lyric grew up in Hollywood and is an enthusiastic screenwriter (she attended NYU Tisch Film School), poet, actress, photographer, spiritual teacher, and activist. An avid practitioner of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi’s Transcendental Meditation, she graduated Magna Cum Laude from Maharishi University of Management in 2006 with a degree in Vedic Science. It was this experience that led Lyric to delve deep within herself in an exploration of consciousness, fueling her desire for enlightenment. Lyric now also loves to travel to India with her husband who has amazing tips including a great India packing list page. Since having her baby, Kingsley, she now also blogs about what to bring when traveling with a baby on Asher’s site.

Lyric has spent many years as a teacher of The Wholeness, a non-profit organization dedicated to facilitating the full awakening of humanity. She has been deeply transformed and inspired by their breakthrough technologies, which bring each individual’s awareness back to the love and truth resonating in all of our hearts.

Lyric is also honored and excited to help kick-start GATE’s NextGen, which inspires young artists to change the world. GATE, the Global Alliance for Transformational Entertainment, is a non-profit charitable organization founded in 2009 by John Raatz, Jim Carrey, Eckhart Tolle for artists and interested individuals who acknowledge the vital and expanding roles media and entertainment play in creating our lives, and who aspire to consciously transform those domains for the benefit of all.

With a quiver of over 2,000 poems under her belt, Lyric is now stepping out and sharing a 108 of her intimate favorites in this transformational book, French Kissing God: A Journey to Enlightenment.

Lyric is currently living in Maui, Hawai’i, with her remarkable husband Asher Fergusson, and is deeply grateful for the journey this life has provided.

The daughter of Karla DeVito and Robby Benson, Lyric grew up in the entertainment business. She studied film at New York University, learned Transcendental Meditation (TM) and cloistered herself with the women of Mother Divine for three years to focus on her inward journey. In 2008 she began working with The Wholeness and all was deeply inspired by her experiences of awakening floating the waves of consciousness during their programs and retreats.

When Lyric’s poetry evolved into ideas for songs, she collaborated with her father, Robby Benson, who wrote the music, and arranged and produced the ten-song album in his studio on Cape Cod. Robby’s musical genius lays the foundation for Lyric’s powerful lyrics to flow into light.

Lyric’s Love Light Revolution is a cosmic journey inward.

Lyric raps soliloquies between verses of pop melodies, alternating hypnotic repetition, with lightness of being, and good old fashioned fist thumping beats.

Lyric’s vocal dynamics and the span of the music across all five genomes — pop/rock, hip-hop/electronica, jazz, world music, and classical — can be traced back to her gene pool. Her mom, co-producer and legendary singer, Karla DeVito had two solo albums, headlined MTV’s first New Year’s Eve concert, toured the world with Jim Steinman and Meat Loaf as the female lead in the original Bat Out of Hell, and starred as Mabel, in Joe Papp’s Broadway production of Pirates of Penzance, where she met Robby.

Actor-writer-director Robby Benson, (One on One, The Chosen, Running Brave, Ice Castles) became a member of New York City Musicians Union 802 at the age of 14 and has been the recipient of several RIAA Gold Records for songwriting, most notably We Are Not Alone for John Hughes’ seminal film, The Breakfast Club.

Though it may be in her DNA to be a performer, Lyric Benson truly brings her own energy and insight to the music in this breakthrough sonic extravaganza!
